10 Gigabit Ethernet or 10GBase-T is the latest and fastest Ethernet transmission protocol and was ratified for fiber media in 2002 (IEEE 802.3ae) and for copper media (IEEE 802.3an) in 2006. The 10Gigabit Ethernet standard represents a 10-fold increase over the previous Ethernet standard, and emerged from the needs of the market for ever faster networks speeds.
Typical applications demanding 10Gigabit speeds are:
- Storage Area Networks (SANS) - assisting disaster recover, remote back up storage on demand
- Wide Area Networks (WANS) - 10Gigabit enables Service Providers to provide links at cost effective rates

UTP Solution
Molex’s PowerCat™ 10G UTP solution set is an Augmented Category 6 channel compliant end-to-end system, meeting the industry standard TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10. The system include patch panels, patch cords in various lengths and colors, cable and patented DataGate™ 10G jacks with an integral shutter. When used as a full end-to-end PowerCat 10G UTP system, Molex provides a 25 year performance warranty.
FTP (Shielded) Solution
Data integrity is one of the most essential network requirements for many corporations, especially those located in environments that are prone to noise and electromagnetic interference such as industrial facilities and airports, as well as those running critical systems such as military installations and hospitals. FTP (Foil Twisted Pair - shielded) cabling systems are installed to protect data from potentially corrupting electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Molex’s PowerCat 10G Shielded system not only improves the integrity of your data, but has also been designed to support applications where high-speed interconnections are required, such as SAN networks, server farms, data centers and allied technologies. The product range is designed to support the requirements for shielded cabling systems by offering improved Alien Crosstalk performance and enhanced EMC protection. This product range offers a total end-to-end solution including cable, patch panels, patch cords, modules, wallplates and surface boxes. All patch panels and modules feature the Shielded DataGate™ 10G RJ45 jack, which provides 360º shielded protection by utilizing a two piece tin/nickel plated brass can that encloses the RJ45 connector. The Shielded DataGate™ 10G jack also allows 180º and 90º cable exit.
